Two Victims Identified in the Providence Campus Attack as Authorities Continue Search for Killer.

The pair of scholars who died in the weekend's tragic incident on the university campus were honored at the start of the week – while an intensive search for their assailant continued following the release by local law enforcement of the single suspect questioned in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

The student Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was remembered as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, as stated by the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which honored her memory at a gathering on Sunday.

Cook was second-in-command of Brown’s division of the College Republicans organization, as the club stated. Karoline Leavitt also shared words of sorrow on social media, remarking: “Words cannot express. Remembering her family and friends, particularly her mother and father.”

An International Student

The other person killed was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his first year of studies at the renowned school, family members said.

His name was officially acknowledged by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. His ambitions were lofty of becoming a neurosurgeon and helping people,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a online post.

The Shooting Incident

An additional nine individuals were wounded in the violent event in the school of engineering of Brown’s university in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Officials stated late Sunday that a 24-year-man arrested in a search at a Hampton Inn about around 27 kilometers from the university earlier in the day was being released.

“A perpetrator remains free,” said the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you have to regroup and head another way, and that is the current situation over the last 24 hours or so.”

Community Anxiety

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “We know that this is likely to cause renewed concern for our city”.

The assailant opened fire inside a room in the engineering facility on over the weekend, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a handgun, a police source informed the Associated Press.

Law enforcement that raided the hotel found two handguns and two ammunition clips when the individual was taken into custody, as was reported.

Condition of the Injured

Regarding the nine injured, one student was discharged from care, stated the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in grave but unchanging health, and one was in critical condition, police said on Sunday.

Additional Memorials

Cook was honored at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “Her presence was a wonderful, steady, pious glow not only here growing up... but at the university she was a radiant presence in that institution as well.”

A group leader, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the organization. “She was famed for her courageous, valiant, and compassionate nature as she aided her club and fellow classmates,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by the student's death in a tribute. “Our profound condolences go out to his relatives, companions, and fellow students and grieve for of his promising future.”
