The network's Top New Show of 2025 Earns a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often characterized by cynicism, this show's sincerity struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The show centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and supported its peculiarly charming appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about observing this lovable family navigate their simple existence.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
The Path Forward
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well catalyze that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to bask in the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
