The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Chose the Incorrect Critical Role Track

This latest animated series, the most recent animated adventure from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new opening credits. It features our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and taking names, while also hinting at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

All in all, the opening looks amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that something was missing in the music selection.

The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar song created by artist the talented musician. This piece originating from the official score of that title, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful sentimental option, and I believe that devotees of the sequel series will appreciate its presence.

But for me, The Mighty Nein's intro fails to capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the second campaign's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", composed by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the track was memorable and fun. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my device. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of adventurous fun.

The show's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords for me. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its tone is a little off.

Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the animated show will have some changes and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro appears as one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on the streaming service from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are available on Spotify and the video site.
