The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Intense Debates Over Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new playlist called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several notable changes:

  • Every squad has just eight real players, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions performed by human gamers grant complete experience points, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for gamers seeking different ways to have fun with the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.

Player Responses: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and another details everything they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Community Feedback

All that said, there are valid points to criticize the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base meeting them halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
