Ahead of marking his six-year milestone as manager, Mikel Arteta has admitted that his longevity in North London is directly connected to achieving success.

The Journey So Far: The Arteta Era

Arteta assumed control on the 20th of December in 2019 and promptly led the team to an FA Cup triumph within months. Yet, that initial silverware is still his sole major honor following the departure of Unai Emery.

“Yes,” the manager said upon being asked about his future past 2027. “Yet it's about today. And numerous factors need to fall into place in the coming months as well to deserve that opportunity.”

Saturday night brings the anniversary with a match versus Everton, the exact opponent Arsenal faced just after his appointment was announced.

Present Challenges

Given that trailing Manchester City playing against West Ham earlier in the day, Arsenal face being knocked off first place in the Premier League prior to their fixture. This comes even with Arteta managing a squad that has suffered over 100 injuries since the start of last season.

Arteta currently has a year and a half left on the deal he signed in 2024, yet understands fully that he must deliver promptly.

Earning the Right

Arteta elaborated, highlighting the constant necessity to prove his worth. “I think a manager has to earn the right to be here tomorrow. And that is determined by how you react, how you talk here, how you enter the dressing room, the signal you send.”

Arteta continued, praising the unwavering support from the board and owners, while singling out the squad's dedication as the key factor. “At the end, the most important ones are those players... During my tenure, I’ve seen just players with a degree of commitment, willingness to improve and dedicate themselves to the team.”

Injury Concerns

The squad approaches the Everton match dealing with an additional absence. Defender Ben White has been sidelined with a strain that is expected to keep him out for a few weeks.

Confidence in the Path

Even with the availability issues and the intense pressure, Arteta believes the club's “objectives and communication” are profoundly distinct from when he began his reign.

He pointed to the record-breaking achievements as a sign they are nearing their goal. “Examine the performances, all the club records that were shattered... We still haven't been able to do that [win trophies]. But that tells you the standard we operate at.”

In closing, the manager stated, “This is a standard that the Premier League has not seen before in the past. And we want to achieve more lofty ambitions. And if we do that, I think we are on the proper course to winning.”
