Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his position following another convincing loss against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in twelve games, representing the team's worst run after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from above,” the coach stated.

“It would be nice to change things and get a victory naturally but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”

He continued, “I accept my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Discussions with The Board

When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:

“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”

He mentioned, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so let’s see.”

Familiar Problems and Player Reaction

The manager lamented known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” Jones said.

“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He added, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”

“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a spell such as this with results like these.”

He stated, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”

“We’re going to try to get this team return to the top, prove again what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”

“At this moment, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
