Iran Claims Assault on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Amid Widespread Counterattacks.
Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing offensive targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone close to the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any destruction is not yet known and the American officials has remained silent.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house American military installations - said they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was targeting US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on locations associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the government.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported wreckage landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
