Hardline Ex- Legislator J.A. Kast Voted In as Chile's Incoming Head of State.
After a definitive final ballot, ultra-conservative figure José Antonio Kast has won the presidency in Chile.
A Clear-Cut Win
With over 99% of ballots counted, Kast secured 58.17% of the vote, defeating leftist candidate Jeannette Jara, who obtained 41.83%.
This signifies Kast's third bid for the presidency, having previously been beaten by the incumbent president, Gabriel Boric, in the 2021 second round.
Agenda Centered On Security and Immigration
Noted for his strong Catholic views and admiration for the period of dictator Augusto Pinochet, Kast's campaign was largely centered on promises to address rising insecurity and significantly curb migration.
