Fans Demand Arrest of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of Ariana Grande are urging that a individual who breached a barrier and touched the actress during the recent Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared clip reveals the Australian man pushing past photographers and rushing toward Grande while the performers made its way down a promenade surrounded by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "released after being arrested", though official papers indicated that he was set to be present on the next day. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
Record of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram feed features videos of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney performance in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last winter.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is obviously a punishable act," commented an Instagram follower, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Fans Express Concern Over the Star's Safety
Many followers blamed Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had revealed dealing with PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her spring 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming numerous individuals.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" said a further comment on Instagram.
Several fans also faulted security officers at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while others called for digital services to ban Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Event Details
In clips shared widely, Grande seemed shocked when she was grabbed by the man. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Many of supporters had gathered in a sea of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good international debut in a Singapore mall, including several who had queued for as long as many hours before it started.
The movie, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-part interpretation of the popular Broadway and West End production Wicked, which revolves around the surprising relationship between two very different characters.
The production itself is a spin-off of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sparkling outfit at the event while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were accompanied by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning motion picture of last year in the UK, and received a dozen award recognitions, winning two for outstanding attire and production design.
